Omnivore's Dilemma Presentation: The project was to read a section from the book Omnivore's Dilemma and create a power point explaining it. In my group we all did a section and presented it to the whole class.
Knowledge and Thinking: The content that I learned by reading and making a presentation is in English and science. What I learned in the English part is how to summarize better and put words from the book in my own words also by re-reading the section because it helped me understand the text better. What I learned in the science part was how animals got treated and stuff about the fast foods. Before reading this book/ section I didn't knew how they killed animals and how they treated them in the slaughterhouse, and also how fast foods have many chemicals, and people don't give it a big importance, and that's why people are how they are a little bit of overweight. After I read the book I knew many different stuff for example how farmers treat animals and how cows get killed, also to not eat a lot of fast foods. Oral Communication: Before I did my presentation in front of my classmates I was very nervous. But in my house I was practicing on what I was going to say, so that helped me in my presentation. When the time came and it was my turn to present I was ready and the nerves were going away, also what helped me was flashcards I made so I wouldn't forget what I was going to say. When I finished with the presentation I was relieved and knew I tried my best. Now I'm able to be more comfortable on presenting in front of people because it's just a little bit of time your going to be up in front presenting. Collaboration: At the beginning I was very nervous to see who would be in my group because I don't really interact with many people in the class. The group I ended up with I collaborated very good I asked questions to them and stuff like that, also because they actually cared about their grade and didn't play around like others do and that helped me be more concentrated and finish my work. We wanted to finish the presentation good so we all collaborated in helping each other. How I took ownership of my learning: In the beginning I really didn't knew how to get the information from the book and put it in my power point, and also my parts of the power point contained grammar errors, spelling errors etc. How I knew how to get the important information was by re-reading my section and making notes and underlining the important details etc. I also told one of my members of my family to check for any errors in my power point. I took time to stay after school and finish with some of my other group members or if I couldn't stay after school then I finished it in my own time, and also I asked questions to my friends if I didn't knew something. word count: 523 |

Omnivore Dilemma is a book we read in Bio Lit it's just about the author cares about the food he eats. The Omnivore Dilemma project helped me grow in the area of oral communication because I was comfortable communicating with my teammates and presenting to my classmates. Before the project I was nervous about the presentation in front of everyone but then the teachers explained the project and how many slides per person etc. clearly. Also, I was tempting to know who was going to be in my group because I do not have the same communication as in with others. When we did the project I was comfortable with the people in my group. I could participate more because they were actually "good kids" meaning they did their work, and they cared about their grade. Now that I am done with the project I feel relieved. Now I am more comfortable talking in front of people, and with some teammates. Now I know that presenting is easy and just to be relaxed. This is how to give a good presentation.
