World Studies- Totalitarian Speech
What problem were you solving, what were you assigned to do?
The assignment I was assigned to do was to make an essay on the topic of totalitarianism and totalitarian governments, and then making it by ourselves for our Sophomore Defense of Learning Project. The class was given to solve and answer one of the four given questions.
- How do totalitarian governments come to power?
- Why do some countries become totalitarian while others become democratic?
- What was the most significant cause of the rise of totalitarianism regimes?
- Evaluate the role of propaganda in a totalitarian regime?
How did you solve this problem, what steps did you take?
In order to solve this prompt, "How do totalitarian governments came to power?" The steps I had to take were
-Read the book Animal Farm by George Orwell, in which the book Animal Farm took us a while to read but then we finished it and took out quotes from it.
-Read the history book. The history text book we also took notes and quotes that proved what we wanted it to answer.
-Research on the internet. I also search up in the internet because sometimes I couldn't find quotes from one of the other things so I would go to a site that gave me information about how totalitarian government came to power.

Knowledge and thinking
In this project of totalitarian I grew on my knowledge and thinking. I learned how totalitarian governments came to power and what they had to do for people to be scared of them and make them do what they wanted or in other words make the people respect them. Another thing I learned was about the Soviet Union, what totalitarian governments did and Joseph Stalin. Joseph was a dictator that abused of his power and by that he sent people to camps just like Hitler he was another dictator. Totalitarian government came to power by the main reason that was violence.
Written communication
During this project I also grew on the outcome of written communication. In the past years I used to write essays but without adding evidence but now that I started getting into a higher grade I grew in this outcome because I learned to get evidence from different sites and all that and now my writing is better and looks neat with paragraphs and it just looks professional.
How I took ownership over my learning?
How I took ownership over my learning was by taking my time on writing my essay. Whenever I wrote essays in the past I would just write random things and not understand them just to get over with the project and receive whatever grade the teachers gave me. Now during this essay I tried my best and payed closer attention to the workshops and tried getting good evidence that support my points.
