Imperialism Trial: Post-Project Reflection
What we were asked to do for this project is to make an essay and a trial based one the book called “Things Fall Apart”. We had to support either defense or prosecution. The question was if Imperialism was a curse to the African people. My group and me were defense, so we had to prove if imperialism was good and the Africans were bad. The way we had to show that was by filling up a draft that was given to our group and using evidence with people for example my group and I used the book “Things Fall Apart” and used the characters Okonkwo, and Nwoye. Other groups used for example Cecil Rhodes, and a lot more but that was for Prosecution. At the trial we had to act like the person from the book for example I was Okonkwo and Alyssa was Nwoye. Also we had to answer any questions the prosecution had for us.
What we read was the book called “Things Fall Apart”, it was about how Africans life was and how Imperialist changed their lives in a good and bad way. I also research in the internet stuff of how both Imperialist and Africans affected in a good or bad way to each other. During the workshops I learned things for example information on both African and Imperialist people. I read the book, research in the internet, and read documents from Imperialist people and a lot more. A thing that I will not forget is how both Imperialist and African people caused some good and some bad to each other, that Imperialist thought they were better and that Africans were rough with the Imperialism. For example in the book that we read the Imperialism were bad with the African people in some cases because they wanted to get their land but also helped them in some ways like by bringing them education, wealth and health. In the other hand the Africans killed the Imperialist because they thought they were bad and just bad people to them all.
Something that was difficult for me was staying on task in some occasions, also understanding quotes for example from the diaries of the men, and lastly trying to figure out what the other group were going to ask. If I needed help on finding quotes or questions I would ask my teachers and my classmates for help. I wouldn't stay after school because I would just do it during class. I reasearch extra stuff at home or when I had free time, to find more information about both races. How I got to where I got was by doing a lot of work and thinking and also doing my work on time. I improved my skill by doing all the things above.
An outcome I had trouble in the beginning of the semester was Agency because I was shy and I would let everyone else do whatever they wanted and I didn’t say much, I wouldn't say my thoughts or anything. Later on when I started to do this project I grew on it because the people I had in group I was comfortable and I would do my work and I would tell my teammates to do their work and I chosed who I wanted to be as a witness. I grew even more in it because I had already experiences in the past for example in freshman year. This year I knew that I had to do my part without anyone telling me what to do and I had to speak because if I didn’t I would never succeed on anything and I had to start with Agency.
For next semester the learning outcome I want to work on is the written communication and oral communication. I would want to work on the written communication because I need to write more and be more specific on what I want to say and be more clear. Also because I always had trouble on writing and making my writing clear and letting people be sure on what I was trying to say. For example in the questions on the trial they were long but my answers were short and I needed to be a little more specific. I also want to work on my oral communication because as I said before i'm very shy and I don’t like speaking in front of a lot of people because then I mumble and get stuck and get mixed up. Even Though I know I have to speak in front of people for all my classes, I need to just think positive and think that I will do all good.

Post-Project Reflection
For this project we had to answer the following question, “Do Revolutions cause more harm than good?” We were in a group of 4, each person in the group had to research a different Revolution for example the Chinese Revolution, American Revolution, and the Cambodian Revolution, etc. explaining if you agreed or disagreed to the question that was asked. Every team member had to do it’s own research on the Revolution they chosed. After doing research and having all the evidence that was needed to prove if Revolutions cause more harm than good we had a debate. That meant that one group from the agree team was going against (debating) the other side that was the disagreeing team. Also meaning that you had to make the audience believe what you were debating was true/ convincing, that way they could choose your side that was either agree or disagree.
What I had to do in this project was do a lot of research. To do my final product I had to use many internet resources, a book called “First They Killed My Father,” the world studies history book, articles and books I found in the library. All these worksites helped me get a lot of evidence for my 3 main points. My 3 main points that were discussed were that Revolutions cause more harm than good because they killed many people, there was starvation, and executions. All the workshops that we had in class were really helpful, after doing all the workshops the teacher gave us guides that helped me do all my work in order and know how to explain them well.
During the time we were doing the project I learned many stuff. One thing that I learned was that for a debate you have to find a lot of evidence that supports your points. Also it requires a lot of thinking. Another thing I learned was that doing your work when they ask you to is really important because then when you try to do it at the last minute it’s very hard cause the teachers wouldn't give you any feedback in your work, and the teachers would keep on going further and you stay behind. For example me, I would just do part and forget about it either way I had evidence I would still get distracted easily. Now I know that I have to do my work in time. The one huge thing that I learned and I might not forget is about Revolutions. I learned many new things about Revolutions for example that there's many different types of Revolutions not only the ones we talked in class like the Cambodian, French, and American Revolutions. Also that there was good things that happened in the Revolutions but there was always that one bad thing to contrast the positive point.
At the beginning when we first started to do this project I didn’t get anything that was going on for example I wasn't sure what we had to do, but then I knew how to do it because I asked my group members and they helped me. Also I didn’t know anything about the chinese Revolution and I was so lost because I couldn’t find evidence that supported my 3 points. What I did to improve my skills is that I research a lot and during my free time I would research as well. Also I stood for the extra workshops teachers would do. Although I didn’t stay after school I got helped by my team members.
The Learning Outcome I grew during the project was probably Agency. I believe I grew in that outcome because I did my work by myself I didn’t need a lot of help from my group members. In the past projects that include group team work I would let them do all the work and waited until they had anything to tell me then I would do it. But now in this project I was successfully successful. Now I know that I have to do my work even if I only try doesn’t matter but at least try.
Before the project my thinking and knowledge was horrible, I literally didn’t know anything about history. That was because I don’t like history but now that I did this project I know a lot about many different Revolutions and what happened during. All I really did was follow the project and research a lot about Revolutions. Also what helped increase my outcome was reading the book called “First They Killed My Father,” it was interesting, it wasn't just regular history it was an actual young girl that passed 3 years in the Cambodian Revolution. Other than that I think that’s all that I really learned more and that how I grew on thinking and knowledge.
Something I need help on is I think putting sentences/ things or points clearly, like writing my thoughts clearly and that make sense. That’s mostly it.
